Looking for New Access Points

May 19, 2010

ArneyUpdate from MVTV Wireless

This is an update on the progress since the news of our award of federal stimulus money to expand our services in southwestern and central Minnesota.

We at MVTV Wireless appreciate all the support we’ve received, and we want to say thank you to all of those within our current and purposed service area who have called us excited about what this means for rural Minnesota. We’re excited too! MVTV appreciates people helping us in an effort to help their own rural areas and communities. With better technology comes better communication, better jobs, and more opportunities for everyone.

We’re looking for new access points

Many cities, grain elevators, businesses, and residents have offered to lend their resources to helping us establish new access points. It is through these connections and this type of generosity that we continue to grow and serve people and businesses in this region. We are currently looking for new access point options such as grain elevators, grain legs, city water towers, or communication towers within the proposed coverage area map (right-click for larger version). Ideal structures should be at least 120 feet tall and need to be about 15 miles from one another. If you think you have an opportunity to help us reach un-served and underserved areas of Central and Southwestern Minnesota experience broadband Internet, please let us know. With your help, our non-profit can help make Internet a reality for many people.

It is our preferred method to offer service in exchange for site use, if it is determined to be beneficial for an access point. Until we know the specific terms and guidelines of the stimulus project, these are the details we are able to provide. Again, we are looking for new access points that are at least 120 feet tall and about 15 miles apart from each other.

We are a non-profit agency, and we will continue to do our best to hold costs down. It is our goal to make sure high speed Internet is both accessible and affordable to as many people as possible. I live 7 miles N of the intersection of Hwy 12 (Willmar) and Co Rd 5. My address is 10661 County Road 5 NW Spicer, MN.

I know you are looking for an access point that is at least 120 ft high, but I have 2 unused Harvestore silos on my property that I believe are 70 ft high each. Since we are on higher ground, perhaps it would work as an access point.

We really do not have any options when it comes to broadband internet so it would be great if you could establish a connection in our area. My number is 320-214-1251.

    Thanks

    Kerry Deegan
