How To Shop For An Internet Service Provider in SW MN – Part II

You may have recently heard about or even experience a problem with certain online services (such as Netflix) being ‘slowed’ or ‘throttled’ by Internet Service Providers. So we’ve decided to add this topic to our list of questions you should ask when shopping for a Broadband Internet Service Provider.

Back in December of 2013, we posted a blog titled How To Pick An Internet Service Provider In SW Minnesota.  In that post, we shared a list of questions to help you make sense of all the terminology and options.

Once you have a few Broadband Service Providers picked out, here are a few questions you’re going to want to ask in order to make sure you’re getting what you need at the best possible value for your dollar.

#1. Is data usage limited or unlimited? (You definitely want unlimited so you do not have to worry about overage charges each month)

#2. Do you cap or throttle usage?

#3. Do you charge monthly equipment rental fees?

#4. Am I required to sign a contract? And if yes, what are the Early Termination Fees (ETF)?

#5. Do I need any other services to get your internet? (a phone line means an additional monthly service fee)

Added to that list is question #6… Do you throttle or limit any online programming?

MVTV Wireless provides fast, dependable and affordable 4G broadband internet service using fixed wireless technology called Wimax (the gateway to LTE). 5M available in select areas. And we let YOU decide how you want to use it!

If you, or anyone you know, has had difficulty finding broadband internet service in rural Minnesota, give us a call. We’ll be happy to check your location for serviceability. Sign up today!

How To Pick An Internet Service Provider In SW Minnesota

As you add more and more devices and applications to your daily routine, your current Internet Service Provider (ISP) may not be able to keep up with your growing bandwidth demands.

family

Online banking, paying bills, streaming videos and online schooling.

You may be asking yourself …what IS bandwidth and how much do I need? Basically, bandwidth measures how much data can flow through a specific connection at one time. Bandwidth is also referred to as ‘speed’. The speed of your internet service – or lack thereof – can influence the quality of your internet experience.  With today’s technology, faster internet speeds may be required to do what’s important to you and your family.  The more you do online – the faster speed you will need.

The key factors to consider are: the number of users and devices you have accessing the internet at once – and what you will be using the internet for.  Will you just be surfing the net, emailing, and checking Facebook?  Or do you have multiple users using multiple applications?  Maybe you would like to stream videos and movies, do online gaming, connect to a VPN to work from home, upload or download pictures, access your security system, or do online schooling.  Keep in mind, all users, devices, and applications accessing the internet at once are sharing that bandwidth within your home.

SO… now you have to figure out which Internet Provider has what you need, where you need it! If you live in an urban area, you may have lots of choices. National cable and DSL providers like Frontier, CenturyLink, Charter, Mediacom, Verizon and AT&T may be an option if you live in a city. However, if you’re in rural Minnesota, you may need to look for a local Internet Service Provider. Connect Minnesota has an interactive map that lists ISP’s by zip code. It’s a quick, easy and accurate way to find out who serves your community!

Summer was Busy for MVTV

Lakefield and Litchfield MN Internet Service, Access Points

Can’t believe summer is coming to a close and the kids have headed back to school. I’m sure most people would say they’ve had a busy summer. Well, here at MVTV we were certainly busy too!

Internet Service From Litchfield, MN to Lakefield, MN!

Since May 1st we’ve installed 14 new access points covering areas from Litchfield on south to Lakefield Minnesota to provide Internet service to many more people. We are now covering almost 20,000 square miles of West and Southwest Minnesota. MVTV still has 3 more new access points to install to complete the 34 new sites for the stimulus package we received in 2010.

Minnesota Storms in July

July rolled in with huge damaging storms causing widespread damage to customers’ farms and homes. Thanks to the extra effort of our technicians, we managed to complete 275 repair requests within 14 days, restoring Internet to our growing customer base.

MVTV Internet Service Staff is Growing!

Thankfully we started the summer with 2 new technicians. We welcomed Mitch Grams and Danny Olmstead to our MVTV crew in  May and June. Both have been on the road full-time, doing a great job with installations and repairs. We are now bringing on 2 more technicians with Jake Ellis having just started with us and another to start at the beginning of October. This will give MVTV 7 full-time technicians to handle our customer’s needs. To meet the growing demands in the office we’ve also hired Lindsey Kubesh as a new Customer Service Representative. We are excited to have everyone on board with MVTV and look forward to continued growth.
