This time of year severe weather could hit at any given time. Sometimes, a few minutes notice is all it takes to save lives!
According to the State of Minnesota’s Homeland Security And Emergency Management’s site (HSEM) ~
The Severe Weather Awareness Week campaign helps teach Minnesotans about weather hazards and provides resources to minimize the risks associated with severe weather. Using this site as a guide, everyone is encouraged to make a plan, build an emergency kit and practice drills. The campaign and the scheduled statewide tornado drills are conducted in collaboration with the State of Wisconsin.
Future Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Weeks
- April 8 – 12, 2019 – Statewide tornado drills on Thursday, April 11
- April 13 – 17, 2020 – Statewide tornado drills on Thursday, April 16

The national Emergency Communications Network offers FREE and instant severe weather alerts. They make it very easy to register.
- Go to their Community Notification Enrollment site
- Enter your name, address and phone number (there’s even a TDD/TTY option for our hearing impaired)
- Select the type of alerts you wish to receive and method of notification
- If you want your information kept private, check the Data Privacy box
- Agree to Terms and Conditions
- Click ‘Verify Information’
- Your information and settings can we changed/edited just as easily if you create a password protected online account.
- Review your information for accuracy and click ‘Continue’

Then, be a good neighbor. Check with those that are elderly or may not be as connected as you are. Let them know about the many ways to receive ECN CodeRED instant alerts.
